Ben Brode began his career at the age of 20 when he joined Blizzard Entertainment as a video game tester. He got to work on the fantasy real-time strategy computer video game, Warcraft III, and the massively multiplayer online role-playing game, World of Warcraft. He worked in the position for one and a half years before becoming the Environment Test Lead.
While working on testing the games, he made custom maps for Warcraft III, one of which became ‘Map of the Week,’ and was even released to the community. He later began applying for a new position at Blizzard and had even applied for a position as a designer on the popular science fiction real-time strategy video game, StarCraft II. He instead found himself in a creative position on the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game.
In 2015, he became the lead designer of the free-to-play online digital collectible card game, Hearthstone, and he was promoted to the position of game director later in the year. He was the public face of the game, and he was on interviews, responding to player feedback, explaining game concepts, and more.
