The music industry is one of the biggest industries in the world today. It is one of the biggest branches of the entertainment industry alongside other industries like the film industry, sports industry, and many others. It has grown over the years and has evolved continuously into many other forms than we could imagine. Music is also considered to be culturally-based. For example, in the 1980s and 1990s, a certain form of music became popular with the African-American community in the United States of America. This is known as rap music.
Rap music took the United States by storm, and eventually, the genre was able to seep into other parts in the world. Talking of rap music, one should not forget to mention Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, one of the most popular rap music groups of all time. The band which grew its roots from Cleveland, Ohio, stands tall in the history books today as the most melodic hip-hop group of all time.
Inception
The band was formed in 1991 in Cleveland, Ohio, and their initial name was “Band-Aid Boys,” but later, they changed their name to B.O.N.E. Enterpri$e. the group was initially made of four members; Krayzie Bone, Layzie Bone, Bizzy Bone, and Wish Bone. The recorded their first album entitled Faces of Death in the studio of their then-mentor, Kermit Henderson (Krayzie Bone’s older brother).
The group struggled and hustled to secure their positions in a good record label, and after trying their luck here and there, they secured a contract at Eazy E’s record label, Ruthless Records, where their name was changed to Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. The group released its debut album under Ruthless records in 1994, and it was a good success.
The group was taken under the wing of their executive producer, Eazy E, who gave them lessons that he had learnt on his own during his career in music. Eazy had seen great potential in the group, and the group was really promising. Unfortunately, on the 25th of March in 1995, Eazy E died from complications of AIDS. The group was really devastated because Eazy was their mentor and their gateway to glory.
The group was able to get back up from their loss and produced their second album, E. 1999 Eternal, which was their most commercially successful album. The group also planned to release an album with 2Pac, but it was never completed because of 2Pac’s death. The group released BTNH Worldwide, which was not as successful as the other albums, but the members went on to release their own songs as individuals.
Evolution
The group suffered another blow when Flesh-N-Bone was arrested in 2000 for using a firearm and was sentenced to eleven years in prison. The group still continued to perform as they produced another album, Thug World War, which was considered successful. Bizzy Bone was expelled from the group in 2003, but still, later on, their contract at Ruthless Records expired and decided to leave to do their own things. The group reunited to release Strength & Loyalty in 2007 under Interscope Records, which was a huge success.
