The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India is planning to introduce new syllabus for CA students from November or at least by May next year to improve standards and to reduce the dropout rate, according to M. Devaraja Reddy, President.

‘The CPT pattern for admission is being recast’. The focus on the syllabus would be improving competitiveness, use of technology and availing overseas opportunities.

Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) president M. Devaraja Reddy on Saturday said efforts were being made to implement new syllabus for aspiring chartered accountants from November

CA New Syllabus

“The syllabus prepared by us has been approved by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. After it gets nod from the Ministry of Law and Justice, the new syllabus will be put in the public domain for suggestions from the public within 45 days. If there is any delay, the implementation will be made by May,” Mr. Reddy told reporters after taking part in a seminar on ‘Startup India – policy and tax incentives’ organised here by ICAI Visakhapatnam chapter.

The Common Proficiency Test (CPT) pattern for admission into CA is being recast by introducing 200 marks for subjective questions in addition to objective questions for 200 marks. “This will stop some candidates getting qualified by fluke and allow only serious aspirants,” he said.

The focus on the syllabus would be improving competitiveness, use of technology and availing overseas opportunities.

Mr. Reddy pointed out that they had also launched a campaign to discourage students from falling prey to false promises being made by private coaching centres for getting them qualified without regular training on various articles under senior CAs. He explained that the minimum qualification for registration would now be 12th (10+2) class instead of 10th Class.

Earlier, CA from Hyderabad P.V.S.S. Prasad explained about incentives being offered to startups. ICAI Vizag chapter chairman K. Ramachandra Rao, secretary B. Sreerammurty, vice-chairman B. Venkat Rao and students’ association chairperson G. Bharathi Devi were present.
