Claude Josephine Rose Cardinale was born on 15th April 1938 in the capital city of Tunisia, Tunis. Her father, Francesco Cardinale was originated from Gela, Sicily, before settling in Tunisia, where he worked as a rail worker. On the other hand, her mother was a Tunisia Sicilian, as her parents were Sicilian immigrants. She grew up in Tunisia, where she learnt speaking Tunisian Arabic and French as the two are the native languages in Tunisia. She also learnt the Sicilian language through her parents.
Claudia and her little sister Blanche joined Saint-Joseph-de-I’Apaparition School of Carthage, where they got their early education.
