Early Life & Biography
Itzhak was born on 31st August 1945 in the port city Tel – Aviv, Israel to Jewish couple Chaim and Shoshana Perlman. His parents were native to Sweden, and they immigrated to Palestine in the mid- 1930s and got married there. When Itzhak was four years old, he was contracted with Polio and had to use leg braces and crutches to walk since then. He moved to the United States at the age of 13 to attend the Julliard School in New York City.

Itzhak first became interested in the violin after listening to a classical radio program. After being rejected from the Shulamit Music Conservatory due to his young age, he self-taught himself how to play the violin. At the Academy of Music in Tel Aviv, he gave his first violin recital at age ten.
He has performed in numerous popular US shows and concerts. He made his first appearance in 1958 on the Ed Sullivan Show, and again in 1964. He also made guest appearances in The Tonight Show and Sesame Street and performed at several functions in the White House. On 5 July 1986, he performed on the New York Philharmonic for his contribution to the 100th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty, which was broadcast on-air on ABC Television in the United States.
He also joined the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra in 1987 for their concerts in Warsaw, Leningrad, Budapest, and a few other Eastern Bloc cities. Perlman has also recorded jazz, including a jazz album he made with Oscar Peterson, a jazz pianist. Perlman has taught at the Brooklyn College as the faculty of the Conservatory of Music. He currently teaches his pupils one-on-one at the Perlman Music Program, founded by his wife Toby Perlman and Suki Sandler in 1994, on Long Island, New York.
