Carradine was born in the California town of San Mateo. Sonia Sorel (née Henius), an actress and artist, and actor John Carradine are his parents. His full brothers include Christopher Carradine and Robert Carradine. Michael Bowen is his maternal half-brother. Max Henius, a scientist, was his maternal great-grandfather, while his maternal great-grandmother was Johan Ludvig Heiberg’s sister. Johan was a very renowned historian.
