Mervyn Edward “Merv” Griffin Jr. was born on July 6, 1925, in San Mateo, California. His mother, Rita Elizabeth Griffin, was a homemaker and father, Mervyn Edward Griffin; Sr. was an insurance broker. He went to San Mateo High School and graduated in 1942. He carried on assisting the school financially.
