Reba was born on March 28, 1955, in McAlester, Oklahoma. Her mother, Jacqueline (née Smith; b. November 6, 1926) was a school teacher who wished to be a country musician. She taught her children how to sing. Reba learned to play the guitar and write songs. Reba, her brother, Pake and younger sister, Susie formed a vocal group: “Singing McEntire’s”. Alice, the older sister, did not join. The group sang in rodeos and made a name in “The Ballad of John McEntire”.
