He is the only child of his mother, Rose Marie Chrysler, and his father, Alexander David Klegerman. His father was a Jew and worked as a professional gambler. His mother worked in a jewellery plating factory.
When Robbie was a toddler, his father Alexander died in a road accident. After the death of his father, his mother married James Patrick Robertson, who adopted Robbie. When Robbie was a child, his mother travelled in different cities, so he could never focus on his studies.
