Shannon Sharpe was born in Chicago, Illinois, on June 26, 1968, to his parents Pete Sharpe and Mary Alice Dixon. He is the younger brother of Sterling Sharpe, who is a former NFL star wide receiver. He grew up in a very poor family in Glennville, Georgia.
He went to Savannah State College and graduated with a degree in criminal justice. While he was in college, he played basketball and football and also competed in track and field, including jumping and throwing events.
