She was the middle child with two sisters, Lindy and Jayne, two years older than her and Sarah, two years younger than her.
She did her childhood education in the Church of Scotland until the age of 12. She later studied in Broughton High School, where she was bullied, which led to her suffering from depression and body dysmorphic disorder. She would often carry sharp objects with her and would injury herself whenever she felt stress or anxious. She then joined a rebel group, which helped her in rebelling herself against the bullies, but she got into drugs, alcohol, and stealing.

She became well known all over Edinburgh as she used free samples of Miss Selfridge to style hair for several local brands. She was also seen in the Jackie magazine modeling for clothes.
