The Rolling Stones is a rock band from London, England, which was formed in 1962. The first member of the group was Brian Jones who could play guitar, harmonica, and keyboards, Mick Jagger, who was the lead vocals and was able to play harmonica, Keith Richards as a guitarist and for vocals, Bill Wyman as a bass guitarist, Charlie Watts was the drummer.

Inception

Keith Richards and Mick Jagger were childhood friends, and they were also classmates; they lived in Dartford, Kent, in 1950. In 1954, Then Jagger’s family moved to Wilmington, Kent, 8.0 km away from there current location. Mick was carrying Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters records which revealed a similar interest.

Later a musical partnership occurred. Keith and Taylor use to meet at Jagger’s house. Then they had changes in their meeting place; they decided to move there meeting place to Taylor’s home in late 1961. Keith and Taylor met Alan Etherington and Bob Beckwith, who also joined the group. The members of the band named their band ‘the Blues Boys.’

The Blues Boys read an article about the Ealing Jazz Club in Jazz News newspaper in March 1962, which mentioned the name of Alexis Korner’s (the father of British Blues) rhythm and blues band, Blues Incorporated. Blues Boys sent a recording of their best performance of music to Korner, who was impressed by there music.

On 7 April 1962, The band visited the Ealing Jazz Club and met the members of Blues Incorporated, Brian Jones as a slide guitarist, Ian Stewart as a keyboardist and Charlie Watts as a drummer. After having a meeting with Korner, Mick and Kieth started playing with the members of the Blues Incorporated.

Evolution

The band advertised for bandmates in Jazz Weekly with Jones no longer in the group. Stewart found a practice space for the band, and together, they decided to form a band playing Chicago blues. But soon after, Jagger, Taylor, and Richards left the band to join Brian and Ian. Initially, during their first rehearsal, they had Geoff Bradford as a guitarist and Brian Knight as a vocalist, but both of them didn’t join the band as they had a creator difference with Jagger and Richards to play the Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley songs.

In June 1962, in an audition for a drummer, Tony Chapman joined the band as a drummer, also completing the band’s line-up of Mick, Keith, Brian, Ian, and Taylor. The group, named during a phone call between Jones and Jazz News in which when the interviewer asked the band’s name, Brian saw a Muddy Waters LP lying on the floor, and one of the tracks was named “Rollin’ Stone” so Brian said the name of the band as Rollin’ Stone.

They started the whole proceedings in Marquee Club, where they named the group as ‘the Rollin Stones”. Soon after, the band went on their first tour in the United Kingdom, which they called a “training ground” tour, as they had their first tour. They played the songs of the Chicago blues as well as Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley.

The band’s bassist Bill Wyman joined the group in December 1962, and drummer Charlie Watts joined in January 1963. In 1963 the members of the band were searching for the popularity of the band. In 1964, Two unknown opinion polls rated the Rollin’ Stone as Britain’s most popular band, even outranking the very famous group of The Beatles. The band’s name was changed soon after their first tour from “the Rollin’ Stones” to “The Rolling Stones.”
