Tatchakorn Yeerum, also known as Tony Jaa or Jaa Phanom, was born on 5th February 1976 in Surin, Thailand. His parent’s names are Rin Saipetch and Thongdee Yeerum. He is multilingual and can talk in Thai, Northern Khmer, and Kuy and is of Kuy descent.
He gained interest in martial arts from watching his idols Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Jet Li. He would see them doing martial arts and imitate their moves while playing with his friends or working on his farm with his father. He found their skills in martial arts as beautiful and heroic.
He then started learning martial arts officially at the age of 10 in a local temple, Muay Thai. When he was 15 years old, he wanted to work under Panna Rittikrai, a Thai action film director. He attended the Maha Sarakham College of Physical Education in Maha Sarakham Province as his mentor, Panna advised him to do so. He graduated from the university with a bachelor’s degree in Martial Arts.
