Vir Das was born on 31 May 1979 in Dehradun, India. He is the son of Ranu Das and Madhur Das. His sister is Trisha Das who is a National Film Award winning documentary filmmaker.
Vir’s father used to work in a food processing company in Lagos, Nigeria. Owing to this, he was raised both in India and Nigeria. While in Nigeria, he went to the Indian language School.
Following this, he attended the Lawrence School in Sanawar, India. Vir has also attended Delhi Public School in Noida followed by Sri Venkateswara College and the University of Delhi. Later he earned his college degree in theatre and economics from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois.
