Among the pillars of the of the tax proposals included in the Financing Minister’s budget plan speech for 2015-16 was extension of advantages to the middle class. In this process the Financing Minister announced extension of particular advantages in respect of medical treatment under area 80 DDB. This area allows a deduction for expenditure incurred on treatment of specified disorders.
Taking the process forward, Central Board of Direct Taxes has actually provided a Notice vide S.O. No.2791(E) on 12 th October 2015 changing Rule 11 DD. The amended Guideline relaxes the condition of acquiring the certificate for claiming expenditure under area 80 DDB in regard of specified ailments from a professional working in a Federal government hospital. As per modified Rule 11 DD, the prescription can be provided by any specialist mentioned in the changed Guideline. Henceforth, it will not be compulsory to obtain a certificate from an expert working in a Government health center.
