Her mother, Elizabeth Daniel Bryan, was a Broadway Theatre actress, and her father Robert Montgomery was a film director and producer. Together the couple had three children, including Elizabeth, who was their second child after Martha Bryan Montgomery and before Robert Montgomery Jr. As a kid, Elizabeth went to Westlake School for Girls in Holmby Hills, California, and graduated from Spence School in New York City. For three years, she went to Manhattan to study the Academy of Dramatic Arts.

Elizabeth got married to her first husband Fredric Gallatin Cammanna in the year 1954, their marriage didn’t last long, and they got divorced in 1955. She got married to her second husband, Gig Young, who was an Emmy award-winning actor in the year 1956 and got divorced in 1963. She got married to William usher in 1963 and had three children, daughter Rebecca Usher and two sons, Robert and Bill Usher.
