Maradona’s full name is Diego Armando Maradona.  He was born on 30 October 1960 to parents Diego Maradona “Chitoro” (d. 2015) and Dalma Salvadora Franco ‘Doña Tota’ (d. 2011) at the Policlínico Evita Hospital in Lanús, Buenos Aires Province. He has five sisters (Rita Maradona, Elsa Maradona, Maria Rosa Maradona, Ana Maria Maradona, and Claudia Maradona) and two brothers (Hugo Maradona and Raúl Maradona).

At the age of 8, he was playing for his neighborhood club Estrella Roja and one fine day, and a talent scout spotted him. He has also played for Los Cebollitas at the age of 10, which is a junior team of Buenos Aires’s Argentinos Juniors, and as a 12-year old kid, he used to entertain the spectators by showing his skill with the ball during the halftime intermissions of the first division games.

On 7 November 1984, Maradona married Claudia Villafañe in Buenos Aires. Claudia gave to daughters Dalma Nerea on 2nd April 1987 and Gianinna Dinorah on 16 May 1989. However, after 19 years of marriage, they divorced in 2004. However, they remained on good terms even after they divorced.

One interesting revelation that was made during the divorce proceedings was that Maradona accepted to being a father to Diego Sinagra. Diego Sinagra was born on 20th September 1986 in Naples, Italy, due to an extramarital affair between Maradona and Cristiana Sinagra, while Maradona was still married to Claudia. Maradona used to play as a mid-fielder and is widely known for his ability to create chances, passing, ball control, and dribbling skills.  He made his professional debut on 20 October 1976 for Argentinos Juniors at the age of 15. With that, he became the youngest player in the history of the Argentine Primera Division.  He spent five years at the Argentinos Juniors until 1981 and scored 115 goals in 167 matches for the team.  He was then transferred to Boca Juniors at a fee of US$ 4 Million.

He was then transferred to Barcelona for a then-record fee of US$ 7.6 Million after the conclusion of the 1982 World Cup, in June.  He gave some amazing performances for Barcelona, but his time there was filled with illness, injury, and controversial incidents as well.  He was then transferred to Napoli in Italy’s Serie A for a then-record fee of $US 10.48 Million.

Under the leadership of Maradona, the Napoli team went on to win their 1st ever Serie A Italian Championship in 1986-87.
