Ron Popeil was Born in 1935 to his parents Samuel J a kitchen gadget inventor and Elois Popeil. His parents divorced when Ron was just three years old. Ron and his brother Jerry were placed under foster care in New York foster home. While he was eight years, Ron and Jerry’s paternal grandfather came to the rescue, moved the brothers to Florida. Popeil used part of his earnings as a salesman to enroll in the University of Illinois. However, after a year and a half of attending classes, he decided to leave the university and pursue other interests.

Career
Over hard circumstances, while leaving with his father, he decided to reunite with his dad. His father was an inventor, a pitchman, and a manufacturer of the Popeil Brothers company. It sold household and kitchen gadgets. The factory made the Chop-O-Matic, the gadget we would all come to know as the famous Veg-O-Matic. And just like all businessmen, he allowed his son to work for him a salesman. His work was to take care of the in-store product demonstrations and persuading buyers that Popeil products were a necessity in their kitchens.
One day he watched other vendors selling their goods and thought to him that he could do it better. A friend then told him of a TV station in Tampa that would let him make a commercial for $550. Popeil thought it was a good idea because he had nothing to lose. He looked for a new product to work with and a product that every household would buy. He settled for a sprayer, and he bought them in small quantities he named it Ronco spraying gun. He advertised it in the Midwest.
It became a huge success that his father to sell a revolutionary new food slicer he’d developed called the Chop-O-Matic, and it was a huge success even to his father for selling thousands of units. With Veg-O-Matic, Ronco’s annual sales shoot up from $200,000 to $8.8 million in a span of 4 years.
Ron decided it was time to take his company public and asked investment firm, Shearson Hammill, to underwrite the initial public offering. He renamed his company to Ronco Teleproducts Inc. When the offering went through in August 1969, Popeil became a multimillionaire overnight, and a direct-response TV marketing dynasty was born a company based in infomercial and commercials.
After declining sales, Ron Popeil decided to sell Ronco in 2005 to a Denver based company called Fi-Tek Vita for $55 million. He would be paid a salary to be the company’s spokesman. This was part of the agreement sale. This took a turn to the worst as Ronco filed for bankruptcy in 2018.
